Practice Areas
Car Accidents
A car crash can do more than injure you. It can threaten your fitness for duty, your next promotion, or your ability to deploy. We handle every part of the claim: gathering police reports and military medical records, documenting lost pay and allowances, dealing with TRICARE and VA liens, and negotiating with insurance companies that count on you being too busy to push back. If the insurer will not pay fair value, we are prepared to take your case to trial.
Motorcycle Accidents
Insurance adjusters often assume a motorcyclist caused the crash. We push back with evidence: scene photos, vehicle damage, witness statements, and, when needed, accident reconstruction. Many service members who ride have completed military-required motorcycle safety training, and that record matters. Motorcycle crashes often cause serious injuries, including fractures, road rash, and head trauma, that can end a military career or force a medical board. We build your claim to account for lost future earnings and benefits, not just today’s medical bills.
Trucking Accidents
Crashes involving semi-trucks and other commercial vehicles differ from ordinary car accidents. Trucking companies must follow federal safety rules on driver hours, maintenance, and inspections, and they often send investigators to the scene within hours. We move quickly to preserve evidence of fault, including electronic logging data, dash-camera footage, and maintenance records. These cases may involve several defendants and large insurance policies. Colorado’s I-25 and Wyoming’s I-80 corridors see heavy truck traffic, and we know how defendants handle these cases.
Government Vehicle Accidents
If a military vehicle, postal truck, or other federal vehicle hit you, the usual rules do not apply. Claims against the United States fall under the Federal Tort Claims Act, which requires a written administrative claim, usually on Standard Form 95, filed within two years. Missing it can end the claim. Active-duty claimants may also face the Feres doctrine, which bars some service-related claims. We evaluate these issues early, file the claim correctly, and pursue the case in federal court if the agency denies it.
Uninsured and Underinsured Motorist Claims
Too many drivers on Colorado and Wyoming roads carry little or no insurance. When the at-fault driver cannot cover your losses, your own auto policy may step in through uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage. But your own insurer is not on your side. It may question your injuries and delay payment. We review your policy, identify every source of coverage, and hold your insurer to its contract and to its duty to deal with you in good faith.
Wrongful Death
Losing a spouse, parent, or child in a crash is a loss no settlement can repair. A wrongful death claim can still hold the responsible party accountable and help provide for the family left behind, including lost income, lost military benefits, and the loss of companionship. Colorado and Wyoming each have strict rules on who may bring the claim and how soon it must be filed. We guide military families through the process with care, while handling the legal work so you can grieve.
Military Personal injury Lawyer
About Stackhouse Law Firm, Ltd.
Military Accident Lawyers represents service members, veterans, military retirees, and their families who are injured in vehicle crashes in Colorado and Wyoming. We focus on one group of people because their cases are different. An injury that would be a setback for a civilian can end a military career, trigger a medical board, delay a promotion, or take a service member off deployment orders. Most personal injury firms are not built to see those losses, much less prove them. We are.
The firm was founded by Phillip Stackhouse, a retired Marine who served 22 years on active duty. He enlisted, became an infantry officer, and later served as a judge advocate. Since leaving active duty, he has continued to represent service members in military courts, administrative boards, and federal court. He has tried cases in state, federal, and military courts, and he serves as a Staff Instructor with the Gerry Spence Method of Trial Advocacy in Dubois, Wyoming, where he helps train trial lawyers from across the country.
That background shapes how we handle every case. We know how military pay, allowances, and retirement benefits work, so we can show what an injury truly costs. We know how TRICARE and VA liens affect a settlement, because our founder is a TRICARE patient himself. We know how to get records from military treatment facilities and commands. And we know how to explain a military career to an insurance adjuster or a jury who has never lived one.
We handle car, motorcycle, and truck crashes, claims against uninsured and underinsured drivers, wrongful death cases, and crashes involving government vehicles. Claims against the federal government follow their own rules and deadlines, and a misstep early can end the case. We handle those claims with the same care we bring to military practice, because the federal government is a defendant we know well.
We prepare every case as if it will go to trial. Most cases settle, but insurance companies pay fair value only when they believe a lawyer is ready and able to try the case. When a case calls for additional trial resources, we work alongside experienced trial lawyers in Colorado and Wyoming so that you have the strength your case needs.
You will work directly with your lawyer, not get passed from desk to desk. We have offices in Castle Rock, Colorado, and Laramie, Wyoming, each with staff ready to help. If you are stationed elsewhere, deployed, or have moved since the crash, we can handle your Colorado or Wyoming case wherever you are now.
If you or someone in your family was hurt in a crash in Colorado or Wyoming, call us. We will listen, explain your options in plain terms, and tell you honestly whether we can help.

Military Personal injury Legal Team
Meet the team
Phillip Stackhouse spent 22 years on active duty in the United States Marine Corps. He enlisted, earned his commission, and served as an infantry officer before becoming a judge advocate. During eight years as a Marine lawyer, he prosecuted and defended cases, advised commanders, and saw firsthand how a single event can change the course of a military career.
After retiring from the Marine Corps, Phillip founded Stackhouse Law Firm, Ltd., to represent service members facing courts-martial, administrative separation boards, security clearance actions, and other cases that put their careers on the line. That work taught him how commands, medical boards, and military benefits systems actually operate, knowledge that now drives his personal injury practice. When a crash injures a service member, he knows what is at stake beyond the medical bills.
Phillip is a trial lawyer. He has tried cases in state, federal, and military courts, and he serves as a Staff Instructor with the Gerry Spence Method of Trial Advocacy in Dubois, Wyoming, where he helps train trial lawyers from across the country. That training shapes how he prepares every case: by learning the client’s story in depth and telling it truthfully to the people who will decide it.
He is licensed to practice law in Colorado, Wyoming, the District of Columbia, Massachusetts, and North Carolina, and is admitted to the United States District Court for the District of Wyoming. His Colorado and Wyoming licenses allow him to handle injury cases arising from crashes in either state, wherever his client lives or is stationed today.
As a military retiree, Phillip uses TRICARE for his own health care, so he understands the system his clients rely on and the liens it places on their recoveries. He started Military Accident Lawyers because service members and their families deserve a lawyer who understands both their injuries and their service.
